Chuck! I find your discussion of minimalism on here really interesting. Particularly since I've never really considered your prose minimalist. It's always struck me as very fluid. I usually associate minimalism with Hemingway-levels of saltine-prose. (Dry, dry, dry! Which I respect, but I contrast it with your style.) All of this bullshit is making me realize something -- I am dense and have no fucking idea how to define minimalism as it pertains to writing. How do you?
The version of Minimalism I learned focusses on keeping themes, characters and settings to a limited number so that the tension escalates faster. It avoids any abstracts and celebrates seeming errors in speech and prose that help customize the language to the story. Blah, blah, blah.
